What are the similarities and differences of the chambers and the two houses of parliament?

The Senate has red seats and carpet. The 76 senators represent their state or territory.
The House of Representatives has green seats and carpet. The 151 members of the House of Representatives represent electorates (an area of approximately 110 000 voters). The Australian Government is formed in the House by the party or coalition of parties with the support of the majority of members.
The Senate and the House of Representatives, with the King (represented by the Governor-General), comprise the Australian Parliament. They work together to make laws for Australia, scrutinise – closely examine – the government to keep it accountable and represent the people of Australia.
