How do all the levels of government help to support when there are bushfires?
Hi Zara. Thanks for your question!
Most of the responsibility for dealing with natural disasters, including bushfires, belongs to state governments. State governments manage fire fighting resources and emergency services. This includes professional firefighters, volunteers, water supplies, trucks and aircraft. However, the federal government can and does help out. The federal government can provide additional funding to areas affected by natural disasters. Some of this funding may be provided to local councils, who have an important role in fire prevention and clean up. The federal government may also send in the Australian Defence Force to assist with recovery and rebuilding.
