Studying adult literacy

The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Employment Education and Training is investigating the issue and importance of adult literacy in Australia.

Feb 3, 2021

‘Many adult Australians have poor literacy, numeracy and problem-solving skills,’ said the Committee Chair Mr Andrew Laming MP, ‘and this may limit their ability to participate fully in employment, education and training, and social and civic life.’

The committee had previous heard that poor adult literacy can affect the quality of children’s education through its inquiry into remote education.

The inquiry into adult literacy is accepting written submissions until Friday 5 March 2021. Anyone interested in contributing a submission to this committee inquiry can find out more on the inquiry homepage.
