Medevac repeal

The Parliament passed the Migration Amendment (Repairing Medical Transfers) Bill 2019, which repealed—cancelled—part of the Home Affairs Legislation Amendment (Miscellaneous Measures) Act 2019 passed in February.

The Act set up a revised system to allow for the transfer of asylum seekers from regional processing countries to Australia for medical treatment.

Introducing the bill in the House of Representatives, the Minister for Home Affairs, the Hon Peter Dutton MP, said, ‘while this bill removes one medical transfer pathway established by the law passed with the support of Labor and the Greens, there will remain the existing process to manage medical transfers.’
