Each year the My First Speech competition invites students in years 10 to 12 to imagine themselves a newly elected member presenting a speech to the House of Representatives. In first place, Lucy Lonnqvist from St Mary's Anglican Girls School in Perth, Western Australia, spoke about new ways to measure Australia’s success. In second place, Alexander Matters from St John's Grammar School in Adelaide, South Australia, gave a speech emphasising the importance of green spaces in our cities. In third place, Clara Kim from Taroona High School in Hobart, Tasmania, described new possibilities for partnerships in education for students in rural and regional areas.
