Drought assistance approved by Parliament

Future funding for drought-resilience projects has been put in place, under bills passed by the Parliament.

The Future Drought Fund Bill 2019 and the Future Drought Fund (Consequential Amendments) Bill 2019 established the Future Drought Fund. This will pay for projects such as research, new technology, environmental management and support for farms and their communities. 

Introducing the Future Drought Fund Bill 2019 and the Future Drought Fund (Consequential Amendments) Bill 2019, the Minister for Water Resources, Drought, Rural Finance, Natural Disaster and Emergency Management, the Hon David Littleproud MP, told the House of Representatives, ‘The Future Drought Fund demonstrates the government's long-term commitment to build drought resilience, including preparedness and recovery across Australia.’
