Arrivals and departures

In cases where a Senate vacancy is caused by the resignation of a senator, section 15 of the Australian Constitution directs that the new senator is appointed by the parliament in the state from which the original senator was chosen.

Several new senators were sworn in to replace senators who had resigned from the Parliament:

  • Senator Raff Ciccone, Victoria, replacing former Senator Jacinta Collins

A number of members of parliament made valedictory—farewell—statements before retiring from Parliament, some after serving for many years.
