This includes the use of media such as email or text messaging, websites and peer-to-peer file-sharing services. The eSafety Commissioner will handle complaints and enforce a civil penalty system (that is a system where financial penalties for individuals or corporations can be handed out). Criminal offences for sharing of intimate images without consent will also apply.
New social media images law
Posting or threatening to post non-consensual, or unapproved, intimate images on social media will be banned, as a result of the Enhancing Online Safety (Non-consensual Sharing of Intimate Images) Bill 2018 passing the Parliament.
